Secretary Austin expressed condolences for the losses suffered by Israel on October 7th and reiterated President Biden’s unwavering commitment to Israel. He underlined the unshakeable nature of America’s support and emphasized that no entity should test this resolve. Secretary Austin detailed the US-led multinational maritime task force in the Red Sea, aimed at upholding the principle of freedom of navigation. Addressing Iran’s support for Houthi attacks on commercial vessels, he called for a halt to such actions. Secretary Austin assured continued US assistance, including critical munitions and support for Israel’s mission to locate and free hostages. He also highlighted the importance of addressing urgent humanitarian needs, particularly in Gaza, and commended recent initiatives by Prime Minister Netanyahu.
